What You'll Actually Learn
This isn't about copying tutorials. We built this program around the things most beginners struggle with—holding a pencil correctly, seeing proportions, understanding where shadows actually go.
Each module tackles one specific challenge. You work through exercises that make sense, get feedback that helps, and gradually build the kind of confidence that comes from understanding how drawing actually works.
Program Structure
Foundation Skills
Getting comfortable with basic tools and techniques. This is where you figure out grip, pressure, and how to actually control a line.
- Pencil handling and mark-making
- Basic shapes and form construction
- Measuring and proportion basics
- Line quality and control exercises
Seeing and Observing
Most drawing problems are seeing problems. We work on training your eye to notice angles, distances, and relationships you usually skip over.
- Negative space recognition
- Sighting and comparison methods
- Contour drawing practice
- Value identification exercises
Light and Shadow
Understanding where shadows fall and why makes everything look more three-dimensional. We break down the patterns so they make sense.
- Core shadow and cast shadow
- Shading techniques and blending
- Form shadow on simple objects
- Value scales and gradation
Basic Composition
Putting things together in a way that works. Simple rules about placement, balance, and leading the viewer's eye around the page.
- Rule of thirds application
- Visual weight and balance
- Focal point creation
- Frame composition basics
Texture and Detail
How to suggest different surfaces without drawing every single detail. Learning when to add information and when to let the viewer's brain fill it in.
- Pattern recognition in surfaces
- Selective detail application
- Edge quality variation
- Implied texture techniques
Personal Projects
Applying everything you've learned to subjects you actually want to draw. This is where you start developing your own process and style.
- Project planning and preparation
- Reference gathering methods
- Problem-solving strategies
- Portfolio piece completion
How Learning Actually Happens Here
We built this around short practice sessions that fit into regular schedules. You're not sitting through three-hour lectures—each lesson focuses on one concept, you practice it, get feedback, and move on when you're ready.
The instructors watch your progress and adjust the pace. If you're breezing through something, they'll push you further. If you're stuck, they'll break it down differently or suggest alternative exercises.
Watch Short Demo
15-minute video showing the technique in real time with explanation of why it works this way.
Practice Exercise
Specific assignment applying the technique. Usually takes 30-45 minutes depending on your pace.
Upload for Review
Submit your work and get detailed feedback within 24 hours on what's working and what needs adjustment.
Live Session Option
Join weekly group sessions where instructors answer questions and demonstrate solutions to common problems.
Move Forward
When you've got it down, unlock the next lesson. No artificial waiting—progress at your actual speed.
Who Teaches This
Gregor Viklund
Lead Instructor - Fundamentals
Spent 12 years teaching drawing to people who thought they couldn't draw. Started as a comic book artist, shifted to education after realizing he enjoyed fixing beginner mistakes more than his own work.
Specializes in: Observational drawing, proportion training, pencil techniques
Linnea Bergström
Instructor - Light & Form
Background in architectural rendering. Knows more about shadow patterns than anyone should. Makes lighting logic make sense through diagrams that actually help instead of confusing people further.
Specializes in: Value structures, shading techniques, form analysis
Dmitri Volkov
Instructor - Composition & Expression
Former animation storyboard artist who burned out on deadlines and switched to teaching. Good at explaining why some drawings feel balanced and others don't, even when proportions are technically correct.
Specializes in: Visual flow, composition rules, expressive mark-making
Yuki Tanaka
Instructor - Texture & Detail
Illustration background with focus on botanical and natural subjects. Knows exactly how much detail you need before adding more becomes pointless. Patient with students who get lost in tiny areas.
Specializes in: Texture rendering, selective detail, surface qualities
